Resident Return Visas
(subclass 155 or 157)
All permanent residents have a 5 year visa that allows them to remain in Australia indefinitely, however should a resident want to travel outside of Australia after this 5 year period, they need to obtain a Resident Return Visa to return to Australia.
Once granted a resident return visa lasts for 5 years.
There are 3 situations which effect the granting of a residence return visa.
Have lived in Australia for 2 of the past 5 years
There applicants will have their RRV granted automatically.
Have lived in Australia for one day but less than 2 years in the past 5 years
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have substantial business, employment, family or cultural ties to Australia
Applicants have not resided in Australia for any period in the past 5 years
Applicants will need to demonstrate that they have substantial business, employment, family or cultural ties to Australia and show compelling and compassionate reasons for the absence since their permanent residence visa expired.
